maybe the author of the website really likes it... but what is best really?, I've randomly checked like ten of those, and they aren't what I would consider "Best", one of them contained pixel fonts, which are a design sin, people with poor view are going to have trouble looking at those, heck, I had trouble reading those, and there is nothing wrong with my view.
Maybe it's the most artistic websites, here is something I've noticed, very talented Illustrators, Painters and graphic workers in general (excluding graphic designers... hopefully) usually achieve beautiful pages that look just very good, not to mention fancy; BUT!, it doesn't work... I once saw an artist's portfolio website, clearly it had been made by himself, the splash page was one his paintings, the background was fully black, the letters and links were all in gray, a bunch of borders also grey but darker, thing is, it looked good, in fact, very good, well chosen graphics, but it was poor graphic design, what I have been taught is that designer's main task is to make graphics that work, later comes technic ( in this case applications and methods used for the creation of the web) and for last, esthetic. The Grey's were really hard to tell apart, I had bad time finding the menus, and then reading it, because it was a strange typography, the thumbnails were so small, they were unnecessary, it really didn't give an idea of what the image was like...so, I hope nobody hates me about this post 9.9
thebestdesigns.com itself handles analogy pretty nicely, although general text doesn't pop out, although it shouldn't be too contrasted either, the way I see it, it's just not enough.
ok I've given you the negative parts, I got rid of those, you see, using the word "best" can create such a controversy. Now the good thing, looks good!, great for the inspiration I needed, specially because I'm deciding the colors for my site right now. And quite honestly I'm having trouble with it.
